History of the Hotel"Carolinenhof" Berlin, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
First three town houses of the "Kaiserswerther Verband Deutscher Diakonissen-Mutterhäuser" (Kaiserswerther Association of German Deaconess´ Mother Houses) had been in the Landhausstraße 10-12 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.
In 1975, a modern building, the "Haus der Begegnung" with different duties had been established at that area:
- as residential home: should replace a home for deaconesses who have been cut-off from their mother houses by the border to the GDR.
- as Social flats: for income- weak Berliners
- as guest house: The “Haus der Begegnung”, opened on the 01st of May 1975, had the duty, building a bridge to travelers from the West with destination East Berlin and surrounding area.
In this manner the Kaiserswerther Verband was able to maintain and support the close connection with members in both parts of Germany and East Europe.
During the last years after the Fall of the Wall there has been a big change. Thenceforward the daeconess-motherhouses cultivate direct contacts and visits and the "Haus der Begegnung" was no lomger the important link place between East and West. The deaconesses returned into their former mother houses. So the “Haus der Begegnung” transformed into a City-Hoteli and opened up now to all guests regardless their origin or denomination. Bit by bit the house was altered and renewed.
In November 1998, we joined the Association of Christian Hotels, the VCH-Hotels.
In November 2003, five years later, our hotel received the classification to a Three Stars Hotel.
In January 2004, the hotel “Haus der Begegnung” was spinned-off the Kaiserswerther Verband and now is a subcompany of the association.
In July 2008, the purchase of the house occured through the Hotel-Garni “Haus der Begegnung Berlin-Wilmersdorf” Ltd. We did various renovation to conduct the „Haus der Begegnung“ as a modern city hotel with christian conception.
On january,26-2011 we renamed as Hotel "Carolinenhof" Berlin, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf as expression of this alteration. Only the name of our house has changed, but not the owner and the business management by Misses Gudrun Hille. Nevertheless the individuel atmosphere and our friendly service remain unchanged.
At the moment our team consists of 18 colleagues. The Hotel “Carolinenhof” is an education company. Annually young people finish their hotel expert training successfully.
We operate responsibly and in an environmentally friendly manner. We are committed to the philosophy: “Hospitality at all times”.
Giving you an especially warm welcome and caring attention during your stay are part of our day’s work.
Our Hotel is always a good choice and well worth discovering. Beside the hotel rooms we also rent low-priced apartments for longer period.
Relax and enjoy your stay in Berlin with us- we look forward to welcoming you!
Caroline Fliedner (1811-1892)
In connection with the renaming we attach much importance to the origin of the Kaiserswerther Verband, the tradition of the deaconesses and their basis on a lived christian faith.
